I think this situation is clear evidence that the Obama administration is carrying out the Bush Doctrine, under which the concept of international law (equally applicable to all nations), is de-facto obsolete, and is de-facto replaced by rule of OUR law, which we lay down and enforce, but do not enforce on ourselves.
Thus we shouldn’t waste time debating the nuances of government statements about “moral justification” or whether even the big, broad statements are right. Such arguments are obsolete in the new moral framework. The rest of the world is too weak and too cowardly to do anything about it.
The only people who can perhaps do something are the American people, in the unlikely event that we can think of a situation where the scuttling of international law might cause us some harm.
